Meet Your Piano Fingers 👌
In piano, every finger gets a number from 1 to 5. Your thumb is number 1, your pointer finger is number 2, your middle finger is number 3, your ring finger is number 4, and your pinky is number 5. Both hands use the SAME numbers -- thumbs are always 1 and pinkies are always 5!
Note Cat 🐱 has a fun way to remember: "Thumb is ONE because it is the first to say hello when you wave!" Wave at someone right now -- see how your thumb pops up first? That is why it is number 1! Right Hand vs Left Hand 🤘
Here is something super important: both hands use the SAME numbers! Your right thumb is 1 AND your left thumb is 1. Your right pinky is 5 AND your left pinky is 5. The numbers never change no matter which hand you use.
Flute Fox 🦉 explains it beautifully: "Imagine your hands are two matching mittens 🧣. The thumb is always in the same spot on both mittens, right? That is how piano finger numbers work!"
Hold both hands up right now. Wiggle all your number 1 fingers (thumbs). Now wiggle all your number 3 fingers (middle fingers). See how they match? That is because finger numbers are the same on BOTH hands. Easy!

Rainbow Fingers 🌈
Place all five fingers on five white keys next to each other. Now play 1-2-3-4-5, one after another, like walking up stairs 🔻. Then play 5-4-3-2-1, walking back down. Note Cat says this is called a "five-finger scale" and it sounds like a rainbow going up and down! Try it with both hands separately first, then together if you feel brave!
Mystery Finger 🤔
Close your eyes. G-Giraffe gently touches one of your fingers. You have to shout out what number it is! Then switch roles -- you touch a grownup's finger and they guess. This game teaches your brain to FEEL which finger is which without looking. Pro pianists do this all the time!

Piano Panda wants to practice with you! Go to a piano or keyboard right now. Place your right hand with finger 1 (thumb) on Middle C. Let fingers 2, 3, 4, and 5 rest on the next four white keys (D, E, F, G). Now play each note while saying its finger number out loud: "1... 2... 3... 4... 5!"
Now try the left hand! Place left finger 5 (pinky) on the C below Middle C. Let fingers 4, 3, 2, and 1 rest on the next four white keys. Play and say: "5... 4... 3... 2... 1!" See how the left hand goes in the opposite direction? That is because your hands are mirror twins!
